Sellotape Cinema artists Stephen Snell and Steven Chamberlain have been developing visual systems by which record players in the Record Player Orchestra Sellotape can be directed to play.
For this collaboration, initiated by Trevor Pitt the Director of A3 Project Space, they have produced two ingenious systems;
MANDY – an overhead projector that has been customised by adding a laminator which pushes a roll of plastic on which notations have been added. Playing occurs when the notation reaches the orange zone and stops when it has left this zone.
Eight coloured spheres – one for each record player – that light up when that record player should play. These spheres are lit by pressing a button on the control panel.
